Maize Demonstration Plot
Same plot, same variety and same management - only the nutrition programme differs. The left panel uses local conventional fertilisation and the right panel the Triargo programme. Both photos were taken 20 days before harvest.
Key metrics
| Metric | Control (conventional) | Trial (Triargo programme) |
|---|---|---|
| Yield per mu | ~ 520 kg | ~ 680 kg |
| Bare tip rate | 12% | 4% |
| Thousand-kernel weight | 310 g | 352 g |
| Fertiliser spend | — | - 12% |
Trial conditions
The trial was carried out at the Dezhou National Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park. Soil is alluvial fluvo-aquic with pH 7.2, 1.1% organic matter, 82 mg/kg available N, 18 mg/kg available P and 96 mg/kg available K. Variety Zhengdan 958 at 4,500 plants per mu, sown on 18 April, with 486 mm rainfall over the full growth period.
Application programmes
Control (conventional)
Control: local conventional programme - 40 kg/mu compound 15-15-15 as base plus 25 kg/mu urea at stem elongation.
Trial (Triargo programme)
Trial: 45 kg/mu Triargo high-nitrogen compound 25-10-10 as base, 22 kg/mu of the same product top-dressed at stem elongation, 100 g/mu high-potassium water-soluble foliar feed (1:500) at the tassel stage, and seed dressing with 2.5 kg/mu compound microbial agent throughout.
Conclusions and advice
The trial plot averaged 680 kg per mu, 30.8% above control. Bare tips fell from 12% to 4% and thousand-kernel weight rose 13.5%. Fertiliser cost dropped about 12%, adding roughly 160 RMB of net margin per mu. Conclusion: on land targeting above 600 kg per mu, use the controlled-base + staged nitrogen + panicle potassium + microbial activation programme. The response was largest on medium-fertility land (+28% to +31%); on high-fertility land, reduce nitrogen by 10-15%.
Control plot used local conventional fertilisation; trial plot used Triargo high-nitrogen compound plus microbial agent.
